The Alligator
The story is told about the great Louis Armstrong who was asked as a small boy to go down to the river to get a bucket of water by an old lady. When he went down to the river he saw a pair of eyes looking at him out of the water. An alligator frightened him so much he ran to Miss Allie Mae who said, “Where’s the bucket of water? Go back and get the bucket of water.”
Louie answered, “There’s an alligator down there looking straight at me!”
Allie Mae said to Lewis “That alligator has been there for years. As a matter of fact that alligator is more afraid of you than you are of him.”
Louis replied, “If that alligator is as afraid of me as I am of him, then that water ain’t fit to drink anyway.”
