                                                         th-1th

                                            Each have a story

Bring two apple into your classroom to teach this Character Lesson for Life and invite the students to sit in a circle.

Procedure sit in a circle in chairs around the room.

Pass the first apple around the circle of students one person at a time. In order to pass the apple use a demeaning or disrespectful statement (Careful don’t be too harsh) to the person sitting to your right then drop the apple after your comment (drop the apple on the floor from your chair ) do this until everyone in the room makes a statement and drops the apple

Pass The second apple around the circle one person at a time. In order to pass the apple invite students to express a kind statement  about the person sitting to their right. Use a positive word that you would express toward others to strengthen and support them as a person. It can also be a personal comment example: “While I don’t know you all that well but from what I see you value relationships and would be fun to get to know you better!” make sure everyone has a turn to shine the apple

Conclusion After both apples have passed around cut the apple that has been dropped several times helping kids see the bruises on the inside . Like the bruised apple much of what is said to us impacts us where no one can see the damage. This lesson helps us think before we comment to others

Ask yourself

Is it kind?   Is it true?  Would you want it said to You!
