They asked their teacher

“When did we do these things for you?

Give you a coat

Or bring you some food?”

“Whatever you do for the least of these,

are things that you actually do for me,

but to know who I am

and see through my disguise

you must desire Rachel’s eyes.

I was the new girl sitting alone,

while other hearts were cold as stone;

you came to me, you brought your friends,

instantly I was one of them.

I was the man without a voice,

different from others, I had no choice,

you defended me, as they laughed and stood by,

you saved my life, each time you said, “hi”.

When I was judged for my troubled past,

you proved that goodness and love could last;

when I threw your efforts back in-your-face,

you returned with a smile sprinkled with Grace.

When I was broke down out in the cold,

you were so young your love was so bold;

you’re umbrella of kindness covered me,

your life was the light I needed to see.

And yes there are Angels among you today,

they wear funny hats and give kindness away;

they draw on their dressers

and dream big dreams,

they bungee jump and eat ice cream.

Their lives do make, for proud fathers and mothers,

she loves you all

but deeply misses her sisters and brothers,

her life….our example and challenge

to love one another.

But to know who I am

And see thru my disguise

You must develop

Rachel’s eyes.
