RESPECT Spell out

in Elementary Schools, Middle Schools, Secondary Schools / by Gene Bedley
October 1, 1997

___________The foundation that respect is built on is

“Responsibility”! It means people taking the initiative to demonstrate

consideration and high regard for others. Be an Initiator of respect

rather than wait for people to respect you.

___________ “Encouraging” others when they are willing to risk their

ideas or make an effort to do something new rather than put them down

because they fail. Be an Encourager!

____________People feel respected when others offer “Salutations” or

welcoming them into their group, discussion or team. We get better at

respect when we learn “welcoming words”.

____________ We gain new “Perspectives” when we take the time to learn

from others experiences by being a good listener. Growth occurs when

we listen!

____________ Because each person has different fears and different

experiences we need to demonstrate “Empathy” and understanding to show

our respect for others. Put yourself in their place and ask what would

I do?

____________ Having a “Cooperative” spirit by being a team player

shows that you are a respectful person. When you respect others you

are respected! When you weaken others you become a weak person! We

reap what we sow!

____________ Keep “Track” of myself and my class as we build a

rainbow of respect. Record acts of respect with your learning partners

or responsibility partners.
