The Research Design for Values in Action! is based on following children through their schooling experience over a 20 year period to determine the impact of the program in their school success. The longitudinal study is the most comprehensive study on Ethics education in America.
Research Components
*Each student is required to draw a picture of themselves and label what part of the body correlates with the Seven Values they learned in the program. I.E. (eyes and ears- respect) (mouth- integrity) (heart- compassion) (stomach-perseverance).
Results 99% achieve 100% Success
* Each student is required to write an essay on the seven values and why it’s important to exhibit values in your life. Some of the essays are included in the Values in Action! Coordinators Guide.
Results-100% of students successfully complete objective
Note: A complete Booklet is being designed to include and summarize the interviews. Research findings will be released in the spring of 1998
* Each student is assigned an interview date when they are Juniors in High School to review the seven values and how they have been applied over their education. One of the questions we ask is, “It really didn’t make a difference if we focused on value themes along with your course of study, did it? 97% of the respondents attribute the seven core ethical values as the reason for their success in school and success in relating to other people.
Results resemble Taylor’s response “Oh yes they did make a difference! I would of never been able to play with the Tenacity on the soccer team or receive a State Award as year book editor.”
* Assess their Academic Achievement Of the eight feeder schools to a neighborhood high school, In the freshman class alone, 35 students were straight A students.
Results 17 were from El Camino Real School. Students have become top scholars, outstanding student leaders, incredible musicians and artist and really great people as reported by the middle schools and high schools they attend. Numerous teachers at the Middle Schools and High schools have reported you can pick out the kids from El Camino Real by the way they Perform and behave.
* Tabulate the number of Students each year who are cited for their Ethical Decisions. School – wide Student Bulletin Bds. demonstrate their respectful, responsible, compassionate, persevering, cooperative and courageous behavior.
Results-Each of the 20 years of research the list of recipients has exceeded 1000 ethical decisions.
