I Play Safely Program

in Elementary Schools / by Gene Bedley
May 1, 1999

Violence dramatically reduced on school Playground

With the Myriad of games and apparatus children engage in on an elementary playground one can almost be guaranteed a certain amount of conflict and problems Unless….. You Implement an “I Play Safely Program”.

An I Play Safely Program is doing a thorough assessment of all the games, apparatus, Procedures, rules Primary children engage in and designing rules for each play area and piece of apparatus.

You can Institute a rule like No Rules No Game! and proceed to check off every student to make sure they know the rules to comply with. All children are tested at respective game sites and recorded on a form to show they know and will follow the procedures.

These records are reviewed at key strategic times throughout the year.

If you need rules for any and all games played on an Elementary School site you can find them at our web site in our index for Kids Links titled Games Kids Play at School. It’s a good Idea not to have more than 3 rules per game so children can remember all the rules.
