“Service is the rent we pay for our lives on earth

In recent years service has come to have a negative connotation — often used as punishment. At the same time service is one of the major avenues in developing positive attitudes and healthy self-esteem. I would like to propose that all students be strongly encouraged/required to earn 30 service points in their classroom as part of our theme this year.

PROPOSAL:

All students who attend ECR are required to earn 30 service points. Please select from the list below which service projects you can be responsible for this year:

Tutoring a younger child in hosts.

Helping the teacher with classroom housekeeping chores.

Cleaning the playground.

Helping classmates sharpen their pencil or hang up their coats or sweaters.

Helping shelve books in the library.

Reading a literature section to another class.

Helping classmates and other students learn new computer skills.

Teach another student who has not learned a new concept you know.

Helping kindergarten or 1st grade students learn something new.

Weed the school garden.

Raise the school flags.

Primary playground monitors.

Conflict managers (6th graders only).

PMA Team – school service club (6th graders only).

Student Council.

Assist noon time supervisors.

Work in the school cafeteria.

Identify a service project to improve the school or community.

Help the teachers with an “I Play Safely” program.

Collect aluminum cans for a school project.

Walk with children to school and protect them.

Write a letter to request speakers or help for the school.

Assist the teacher in teaching the lesson.

Assist with art lessons.

Assist with science setup.

Assist music teachers with chair setup.

Assist special education students.

Organize paper in supply room.

Become a clerical assistant to the office staff.

Help distribute supplies in the teacher workroom.

Make a bulletin board.

Assist in the computer lab.

Empty waste basket sin the trash bin.

Check out P.E. equipment.

Clean lunch tables.

Assist the PTA/PTO with fund raising projects.

Help teacher with materials transport before school daily.

Help with school picture days.

Donate food for needy families.

All students must keep up with their schoolwork and not replace service hours for quality classroom work.
