Heavy Freddy
Questions and Answers
Question: How do you get the students not to play with Heavy Freddy?
Answer: I let them play with Heavy Freddy for a little while. This is part of building the relationship. I would designate certain times during the school day for Freddy to sit and play with the kids. Since a string is tied to both his hands he can hang around your neck. He can also hang on a hook on the wall when he’s not sitting or playing with one of the kids. The kids also hold his 3lb. bag of rice on their lap when he sits with them. It teaches children to focus on and do things for others as well as helps them sit.
Question: How do you determine who gets to sit with Heavy Freddy each day?
Answer: I usually pick the kid who can benefit from Heavy’s instruction the most on how to share, how to play with a friend, how to sit still. It really depends on who needs to change their behavior to meet my expectations. My goal is to have him sit with all the children several times. I also want my children to learn the importance of taking turns.
