Throwing Clouds in the Air
Materials needed- Cotton balls and a plastic Zip Lock bag with child’s name on bag.
1-When you notice the class is restless and need a LMA (Large Muscle Activity) because they did not have recess or movement ed., have every child get their bag of cotton balls and proceed to a designated area.
2. Divide your class into 4 sections by a large +
3. Ask kids to unzip their Zip Lock bag and on the count of 3 begin to throw their clouds (cotton balls) into the air.
4. Reinforce the fact they can only throw one cloud at a time and to see how high they can throw it.
5. The reason you want to determine a designated area for each child within the large + area is you will need to be in one of the areas supervising the children you need to camp out on. Otherwise the clouds will become snow balls.
6. Continue to coach the kids to throw one at a time and throw them higher as you record how many clouds are in the air at one time.
7. When finished team up your counters with those children who cannot count to put their clouds back in the cloud bags so you can play game on another day.
8. Let the children know if we lose any of the clouds we will not be able to play the game again.
