Implementing Values in Action! ONE Step at a Time
1st Step: Send home ONE simple survey (found on page 103 in the White Coordinator’s Guide) to assist you in identifying the focus of your annual themes.
2nd Step: Choose ONE core ethical virtue per year that will become your annual theme. We recommend Respect as your 1st annual Theme.
3rd Step: Send home ONE letter per year to introduce the yearly theme to your parents. (See respect sample letter on page 176.)
4th Step: Design ONE Bulletin Board for each classroom that show’s the 7 values in Values in Action! (see page 16) Elementary students can design their board with Mickey Mouse, Winnie, Franklin, or any Sesame Street characters, etc. Older students can incorporate a picture of a teen on a surf board , skateboard, etc.
5th Step: Identify ONE driving force to lead your efforts. This could be a teacher, counselor, assistant principal and/or a group of teachers / parents who will share new ideas with staff on a monthly basis.
6th Step: Provide ONE activity per week for respective grade levels. (The Activities are identified as Value Venture steps in the guide on page 76. Also use articles from our monthly on-line newsletter, Values in Action! www.ethicsusa.com)
7th Step: Send home ONE poster per week for parents to post on their refrigerator door. “Every home is a school. What are you teaching?”
8th Step: Play and learn ONE song per week from the Character Classics Series 1 or Series 2 cassette tape set (part of the Values in Action! program.)
9th Step: Watch ONE of the Animated Hero’s Classics every month to provide examples of people of character. (Part of Values in Action! supplemental materials) For the secondary level, pick stories & examples from the newspaper.
10th Step: Post ONE poster in your class every month that promotes your annual theme. Choose from our set of 30 posters, (the Character Campaign posters), or use those provided in the guide or in the on-line newsletters. The duplication license also gives you
