Remote Control
Each child has a copy of a remote control taped to their desk. The teacher instructs the children to go to channel 6 for instructions, usually to start the beginning of the lesson. During the lesson, the teacher can tell the students to “turn the volume down” (or up depending on the activity;); the teacher can ask the students to “change channels” (w/channel specified) in order to transition activities; the teacher can ask the students to “press the mute” button in order to clarify a statement/situation, ask a question, have individuals brainstorm a solution and/or write it down, etc.
NOTE: The teacher has a transparency of a remote control on the overhead in order to model the activities for the students. Any teacher may modify the instructions/verbiage to fit their class needs.
