Gene Bedley's 7 Teacher Principles
From “The 7 Kids That Changed My Life”
1- When you are for children you empower them and you. When you are against your children you weaken them and you.
2- Emotional nourishment is strengthened through physical bonding. One of kids’ primary needs is contact.
3- Self-esteem is fragile! Meaningful sustained self-esteem has power connections and is focused on developing an accurate and responsible self.
4- Life is a test! A positive outlook and attitude toward self and others reaps high grades.
5- Focus on responsibility, not control. Exclusive pursuit after control and obedience often excludes responsibility. Responsibility always finds a way. Irresponsibility makes excuses.
6. All kids are gifted, some just open their packages a little later than others.
7. The only way you can understand the real purpose of love is to be willing to pay the price and risk it. All behavior is either an expression of love or a call for love.
