Pupils develop Habits of the Heart during Skits
In an after school program Every two weeks students are introduced to a different Habit of the Heart. They define the quality before they move on to academic assignments and art activities meant to expose the child to human traits such as empathy and compassion.
During the conflict resolution and community service phase, students learn how to apply the habits of the heart to real life situations.
Students are placed at opposite ends of a paper that is laminated known as the conflict resolution bridge
Statements like I feel…
the reason I feel is…. Students start off at opposite ends of the bridge with opposite positions , feelings and point of view. With each step they take forward the children repeat the phrase they stand on and create their own endings.
Teresa Langness Executive Board Chairwoman of the After Scool enrichment program says the program was established because of the LA Riots.
