Book Review: Sit Still
by Nancy Carlson
Patrick is a whirling, swirling bundle of energy who knows 101 ways to sit in a chair–maybe that’s the reason people are constantly telling him to sit still. He is the child who just can’t sit still. The illustrations show this happy, lanky kid always in motion in eight different chairs, as he rocks, kicks, lounges, and sprawls. Patrick cannot sit still anywhere — not in school, not in church, not in a restaurant. The teacher has Patrick’s mother bring Patrick to a “special doctor,” who decides there is nothing wrong with him except that he can’t sit still. Patrick’s mom takes matters into her own hands. She gives Patrick extra jobs to do at home, gets him into the choir at church, and walks him to school every day, where his teachers channel his energy into special projects.
