Letters to Gene
Dear Mr. Bedley,
I just wanted to say thanks for the wonderful seminar on Discipline and the Difficult Child . I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation and I know I will find your ideas helpful. (I do not have a classroom as I work as an Educational Diagnostician, but I have teachers who are always looking for ideas.)
I have been saying that we punish, punish and punish-send them off to DAEP and hold 48 ARD meetings per school year on them and guess what? They are back again next year doing the same behaviors. WE (public schools) NEVER TEACH A REPLACEMENT BEHAVIOR. Oh no, that would require ANOTHER TEACHER! The child has nowhere to run. Mom’s against him, school’s against him, why not just continue being difficult? I would, too!! You are so right about loving and caring for their needs. Too bad all educators aren’t in teaching for that reason.
Hallelujah!!! I was so glad I finally heard someone important say that. Now, if we could get those in charge to buy into it instead of funding sports/stadiums. I’ll get down from the soap box now…..
Your act was too funny; you SHOULD be in pictures!! But that’s what sells. I think kids are the toughest audience but the most fun to watch when they “get it”.
Have a safe trip back home and God Bless.
Sincerely,
Susan Opela
