Don't Cry, Such a Hard Goodbye

in Middle Schools, Secondary Schools / by Gene Bedley
March 7, 2013

The times we ve had together,

The memories that we have shared,

The days we lived our lives

Without a single care.

The fights that we have lost

And the battles that we have won,

The times where we ve stood together

And the times when we have run.

The games that we have played,

The fun that we have had,

The times when we could laugh all day

And the news that s made us so sad.

The people that we have lost,

The friends that we have made,

The memories that we will never forget

And the feelings that will never fade.

The times when we lost our heads

And didn t know what to do,

The times when the best of us came out

And showed that our friendships were so true.

The days that came and went

Like the minutes in a day,

The memories of our friendship

Will never fade away.

The things that we have said,

The things that we have thought,

The gifts that we have been given

And the things that we have bought.

The days and nights

That we wished would never end,

The times when we stood by each other

Because we were all such good friends.

The things that we do not want to remember

And the ones we don t want to forget,

The people who we don t want to leave behind,

This just can t be the end quite yet.

This year was so great,

Better than all of the rest.

Today will be the day that

Our friendship is put to the test.

The times that we have laughed

And the times that we have cried,

The times we ve sat and asked ourselves

About the reasons that we ve lied.

The things that we will remember

For the rest of our lives,

Like the ongoing strengthening power of

Our friendship s binding ties.

The words that will forever

Burn upon my mind.

Stop the flashback movies,

Let s go back and rewind.

This cannot be the end just yet,

There s still so much left to learn.

The memories of us in my heart

Will forever burn.

The tears falling from my eyes,

The pain within my heart,

My feelings are driving me crazy

And tearing my world apart.

The question remains in my thoughts,

Of if you will ever know the truth

About how important you are to me

And the values of our youth.

It puts a hole so big within my heart

To know that many of you I may not ever see again,

And the painful thought that

This fight I cannot win.

Do not think that this will be easy,

To let go and say goodbye.

It will hurt me so much,

But my hardest I will try.

You were always such a great friend

And always by my side.

You never gave up on me

Even when I just wanted to hide.

I will never regret meeting you.

Our friendship I will not forget.

Do I really have to leave you?

I m still not quite ready yet.

I guess I better go,

Before it becomes too late.

I cannot change things now,

This is my chosen fate.

I have to say so long

To you, my very good friend.

I cannot stay any longer,

This is now the end.

It hurts to say goodbye,

But things are set in stone.

There s nothing I can do,

Things are better off left alone.

Never forget me ever,

Because I will never, ever forget you.

And you must remember always

That our friendship was so true.

Do not share my pain,

Do not sit and watch me cry.

It will only hurt you more,

Because it s such a hard goodbye.

Keep smiling.

We’ll see each other again.

Don’t be sad, think happy.

It’s now time to begin.
