I have a student who would run in the halls. To help him remember to slow down and walk, I placed a small laminated stop sign at each corner of the school as a visual reminder. I also gave the student a strawberry basket with a large juice can in it and had him hold it behind his back. That way he was unable to run. We call this his heavy work. He loves to carry it and walks appropriately and oh so proudly.
