Campus Safety Workshops
1. Lock exterior doors to keep intruders out.
Grant keys only to specific people.
High profile situations-consider a security guard.
2. Parent patrols-I.D. visible at all times.
3. Establish and enforce a visitor screening procedure. Example: El
Camino Real School.
4. Develop a safety plan: Rehearse periodically.
5. Fine-tune your communication system.
6. Develop an emergency signal.
a. Teacher alert signal.
b. Have a system to alert students while they are out of the
classrooms.
7. Have blueprints/phone lists available for police.
8. Specific assignments for staff prior to crisis situation.
9. Teach the kids to listen to adults.
a. In emergency situations…be careful not to make them paranoid.
10. Classroom management.
a. See to your safety first (just like on an
airplane), then children’s.
b. Take action/control immediately (Practice).
