Different Kinds of Chairs for Different Kinds of Kids

in Elementary Schools / by Gene Bedley
February 1, 2013

For the kids who can’t sit still or are easily distracted try one of these alternatives…

1- T-Stool Shaped like a T. The child is taught to balance on the T. Usually the T Stool is carpeted on the top board. They are guaranteed to sit for much longer since it’s a constant balancing act. Make sure the floor around the child is padded to protect if the child falls. Always get permission from parents in writing if you are going to implement one of these chairs.

2- Move- N -Sit Cushion Blue wedge with one smooth surface and one bumpy surface.

Can be inflated or deflated to allow for more or less movement depending on the child’s needs. The Move-N-Sit cushion gives proprioceptive feedback to a child who has difficulty sitting for table top tasks. We recommend you talk with a physical therapist or occupational therapist. Available in Abilitations Catalog.

3- Big Rubber Ball Deflate a little so child will form an indentation or place to sit as they bounce their way through work. Adults have even been known to use these in several Internet companies.
