For Regaining Control or Focus

Teacher holds up a hand with all five fingers open. She says — “Give me 5!” It means — look with your 2 eyes, listen with your 2 ears, and close your 1 mouth. Kids are taught what the signal means at the beginning of the year. It is used whenever the teacher wants quiet and attention. This is very helpful in large gatherings, hallways, transitions, etc. Kids start to use it with each other. Eventually all the teacher needs to do is raise her hand.
