Greeting Apron
We use a hardware apron (small muslin apron that has four pockets) and put a little piece of Velcro on each pocket. We then attach symbols to the outside of each pocket such as a hand that stands for a handshake, a heart that stands for a hug, a hand with a 5 on it that stands for high five, etc. The teacher wears the apron as the children enter the room each day. The children touch the picture that tells how they would like to be greeted. There are 100 different symbols that can be used to make arriving at school fun and special.
