Hitting- Hands are for Helping
When working with preschoolers Donna Hirst (Head Start Teacher) tell kids “You’re the boss of your hands” If they cannot be good you can sit on them to make them be responsible. A rule to emphasize with children is “If you Hit you sit!” While children need to know they need to work it out with kind words many children need to follow a plan that records their responsible use of hands. This helps them visualize using their hands in a responsible way. A great book to help you with this is titled hands are not for hitting. The book reveals many positive uses of your hands.
