Increase Seat Learning Time
With Selected Problem Solving Ideas
1. Most often a weighted Learning Vest has been used as part of a recommendation for one child to use as part of their IEP. Parents and entire team approve it’s use as a learning option.
2. Some teachers use the Weighted Learning Vest as a tool that students (both special education students and regular education students) select from many of the options presented in the seminar for meeting various kinds of learning needs. (Whisper Tube- Tattle Tale Bag etc. ) From the Seminar Discipline Pre-School -2nd Grade, it remains in the Problem Solving Center to be chosen by studentSecondary Schools to wear to help them remember they are doing their assignment in their seat.
3. Sometimes students will choose a beach ball to sit on to help them do their assignment.
4. Sometimes they choose a piece of heavy yarn that the teacher can place in their lap. Student can get up if the teacher removes the yarn.
5. Another option that kids like is to take care of the “Rice-ocerous” a twenty five to fifty pound bag of rice converted to a Rhino. Kids love to pet the rice animal and play with the kernels through the bag as they work. (Lighter weight for a smaller child)
6. Some children can be taught with head gear and a cushioned wall how to sit in a “T” chair- A 2×4 that’s carpeted on the top that they balance to sit on.
As Gene recommended in the discipline seminar it’s important to pick the items for problem solving that best meet your needs and approved by the parents in writing through the IEP process for kids with special needs.
7. A small construction worker’s helmet can be selected from the classroom problem solving center to denote I’m a focused worker. Watch me work!
