It Takes Courage

in Middle Schools, Secondary Schools / by Gene Bedley
September 1, 1999

In the Values in Action! Curriculum one of the seven core ethical virtues we emphasis is Positive Mental Attitude. While P.M.A. Positive Mental Attitude itself is not a core ethical virtues. The attributes that surround it courage, conscience, confidence and commitment are and contribute most to a person who thinks and works for the best results! Of the four “C”s that lead to a positive mental attitude, the character trait of courage looms as one of the most powerful. We often don’t recognize that many of the daily challenges require courage!

It takes Courage to Care about each member of the family and the struggles they face!

It takes Courage to Care about friends and the daily test they encounter. To let them know you will stand by them through each struggle.

It takes Courage to complete each commitment you make toward others.

It takes Courage to confront the weaknesses in your life and be willing to address needed changes.

It takes Courage to to confess your thoughtless words or neglectful actions toward a person you love.

It takes Courage to proclaim your faith and convictions to people who are judgmental.

It takes Courage to live each day with Integrity.

It takes Courage to stand up or remain seated when you know your actions will make a significant difference.

It takes Courage to keep trying when you experience rejection in applying for a new job.

It takes Courage once you recognize that life is a test and your willing to accept the everyday challenges.
