Kite Goal Setting
1. Invite each child in your class to complete an art project by making paper kites on a 9×12 piece of construction paper.
2. Using a 4×6 white card have each child write a goal statement “I will……”
3. Examples of goal statements can include:
I will follow the teacher’s directions the 1st time given.
I will clean up when the magic word is given at the end of the work period.
I will begin my assignments 10 seconds after the teacher says to start your work.
I will only talk when the teacher throws me the talking beanbag and it is in my hand.
I will work quietly at my desk.
I will wait my turn by putting my hand on the teacher’s handprint on the back of her jacket.
4. Glue the goal statements on the kite and pin on a bulletin board with a yarn tail that is approximately 12 inches long. Make sure each child has their name printed large on each kite.
5. Cut out a number of bow paper ribbons that can be stapled to the yarn.
6. Every time a child meets the goal you can staple a bow paper ribbon to the yarn. This helps kids see they are not only setting goals but working toward the goals on a daily basis.
