Note to Parents from Teachers

in Middle Schools, Secondary Schools / by Gene Bedley
March 7, 2013

Teachers are looking for a partner not a pest, engaged but not obsessed, with a sense of persistence and patience. Partnerships require that both sides do their part.

My Part:

As your child s teacher you can count on me to challenge your child with well planned, highly motivational, intellectually engaging, and disciplined lessons.

You can count on me to challenge and extend your child s intellectual capacities and imagination.

I will encourage creativity and logic while building ethical and moral decision makers.

I will focus on building respectful and responsible learners that are cognizant of the choices they make as well as the implications of their choices.

You can count on me to be an active reflective listener who is both compassionate and skillful in bringing the best out of your child.

I will promote high academic goals, relationship building goals and encourage personal goals.

Your Part:

Provide an encouraging, positive and supportive attitude for your student by promoting a balance between productivity and satisfaction.

Promote responsibility by helping your child realize and experience the payoffs of responsibility.

Demonstrate core ethical virtues of compassion and cooperation.

Help your child observe you working with me in an adult partnership that will insure the best possible outcomes.

While being an advocate for your child be open and objective about your child s behavior.

Demonstrate patience and perseverance in working through problems recognizing that together we can find a way!
