Farmer was one of the few in town that owned a horse.
Horse ran, broke loose and ran away. The Farmer’s neighbors couldn’t wait to see his reaction.
“Isn’t this terrible?” they asked. “PERHAPS,” said the farmer.
The very next day the horse returned with two wild horses.
“How wonderful,” the neighbors replied. “PERHAPS,” said the farmer.
The day after that the farmer’s son fell off one of the wild horses and broke his leg.
“How terrible,” they replied. “PERHAPS.”
The very next day an Army Recruiter came to draft all the young men in town and passed by the farmer’s son because of his broken leg.
Things aren’t always what they appear to be on the surface. Given enough time even the worst of situations can turn into a positive result! In the book Difficult Conversations by Douglas Stone and Bruce Patton they describe the reason we often misunderstand and miscommunicate with each other we are often trading our conclusions. We need to spend more time reviewing the actual events , observations and interpretations not just our conclusions if we really want to communicate!
