Turning Your No's Into Yes

in Primary Schools / by Gene Bedley
January 5, 2013

Oppositionally defiant kids are really good at responding with their oppositional No . You might want to prepare another student with the correct response so when you ask them a question and the answer is yes, the prepared student answers with a resounding YES. At this time you ask the oppositional student how they made their voice come out of the other student.

You can also play the oppositional game with oppositional students by asking them: What s the opposite of high? to which they respond- Low .

What s the opposite of cold? to which they reply- Hot .

What s the opposite of night? to which they reply- Day .

What s the opposite of no? to which they reply Yes .

Make a big thing out of their yes by drawing a great big yes on the bulletin board or white board and placing their name or picture in the middle of the yes. Whenever they say yes have the entire class say yes with them like grabbing a rope in the air and pulling it down!
