You're OUT numbered

in Secondary Schools / by Gene Bedley
February 7, 2013

For crying OUT loud, it sure is confusing trying to make sense OUT of all the ways to use the word OUT.

Before you re even OUT of diapers you learn that people can be OUT to lunch, start OUT on a trip, cry OUT with pain, dig OUT of a snow bank, turn OUT a cake, fade OUT of the picture, be OUT of style, give OUT compliments, back OUT of a deal, run OUT of money, behave OUTrageously, get Chinese food at a carry OUT, break OUT of jail, fake OUT other people, or dash OUT to the OUT-house.

When you first try to spin OUT on your tricycle and you wipe OUT–your mother can get OUT the dirt by washing it OUT or soaking it OUT or rubbing it OUT, and if none of these work she can throw it OUT!

In school you find OUT fast not to get OUT of line. You re OUT of luck if you answer OUT of turn, because then the teacher won t let you OUT to recess until she bawls you OUT. And when you re OUTside playing softball, you hope you don t strike OUT. Don t get OUT of sorts with the umpire or you ll get kicked OUT.

When you grow up you learn that an OUT of sight chick is a knock OUT, and if she s OUT of your league, all you can do is eat your heart OUT. When you re old enough to go OUT on a date, you ll probably break OUT with pimples. You can take your date OUT to your favorite hang-OUT–and if she doesn t want to make-OUT, you ll feel down and OUT. Then you ll get OUT before you re left OUT in the cold.

Well, we re about OUT of our minds with this OUTlandish stuff, so we re going to cut OUT because we ve run OUT …..
