Athletes Pledge

in Middle Schools, Secondary Schools / by Gene Bedley
March 5, 2013

I recognize that sports not only develops character but reveals character. As an athlete I will hold myself to the highest character standards possible.

I pledge to exhibit self- control in each of my performances.

I pledge to exhibit only the highest standards possible in respecting my opponent and the fans who expect me to be a role model.

I pledge that I will discipline myself to the highest standards possible by demonstrating good sportsmanship, both in winning and losing.

I pledge to bring honor and high regard to myself, teammates, my coaches and school by demonstrating high regard toward others during competition.

I pledge to make responsible choices recognizing by doing this I will relinquish unsportsman like choices

that will bring discredit to me my family and my teammates.

I pledge to prepare myself mentally to deal with the choices and the challenges of intense competition.

I pledge to hold myself accountable for all the choices I make in playing my sport, recognizing choices are mine to make and Iive with.

I pledge that I will always find a way in a world that always makes excuses!
