All Shook Up
Most of us have experienced a soft drink that’s been shaken up. We all know if opened it will explode unlike a can that has not been shaken up. The more you shake it the larger the explosion! While all of this happens on the inside its pretty obvious that if we keep shaking the can we will eventually experience a reaction. We learn through trial and error if you shake it once it will be a smaller reaction than if you shake three or four times. Like anger it’s not the first time we drop something but end up dropping it 3 times in a row and you can almost expect a person to become upset and ticked. Like the soft drink that is shaken we too find ourselves expressing strong feelings when we’re shook up!
ASK YOURSELF
*Have you identified the things that shake you up and lead you to anger?
*Have you identified any positive ways to prevent you from exploding?
Can you name three different ways to express strong feeling without targeting others!
There’s an appropriate way to express strong feelings and there are inappropriate ways to express strong feelings!
How important is the “Locus of Control?
Why do you think anger is one letter away from Danger?
THINK ABOUT THIS
*Make a small card and keep it in our wallet. Anything and anyone that make you angry and keep you angry conquer you!
*Anger is a secondary emotion Someting prior to you getting angry made you angry.
*Getting angry implies there are several things that contribute to you getting angry. We can usually handle one embarrassing moment or one bad golf shot! it’s when you have 3 bad shots in a row thatt get’s us ticked.
*Anger most often does not solve the problem it can even make the problem worse
*Conduct a self examination: Find out what makes you tick and what makes you ticked!
*Identify all the things in your life that lead to anger. A short fuse can damage the people you love the most.
*There are things that matter and things that don’t matter Learn how to “Get over IT” and separate the things that matter from the things that don’t Matter. Statements like “It don’t Matter” can prevent a llot of damage to you and your friends.
*Locus of control -You always have a choice to respond or react. You can let life’s circumstances dictate to you how to respond or you can respond by being totally in control.
*Anger is like a wet paint it rubs off on everyone!
