Character Champions
The pilot program, designed by WVUSD psychologist Dr. Diana
Ketterman, includes five animal leaders from Character Island who teach
children and remind adults about the importance of character
development in kids.
At the kick-off assembly, “Gold Ant” demonstrated to students the
importance of taking “responsibility” by acting in a safe, lawful, and
dependable manner while always asking the question, “Is it safe?”
“Green Owl”, a life-long learner, continually seeks “knowledge” by
asking the question, “Is it smart?” “Orange Wolf” urged students to show
“courage” by taking actions that require bravery and to try positive new
things that require risk-taking. “Blue Dolphin” encouraged students to
care about others by showing “kindness” with a cooperative attitude.
The leader of the Character Champions Mascots, “Rainbow
Metahawk”, lives atop Wisdom Peak. Rainbow Metahawk shared
with Vejar students the importance of “working together”, reminding
everyone to use all of the Character Champions virtues to increase
successful outcomes at home, school, and work.
