Social Skills We Teach Students Using the Boys Tow

How to Follow Instructions

1. Look at the person.

2. Say “Yes.”

3. Do the task immediately.

How to Get the Teacher’s Attention

1. Look at the person.

2. Raise your hand.

3. Wait to be called on.

4. When the teacher is ready, speak in a pleasant voice tone.

How to Accept “No” for an Answer

1. Look at the person.

2. Say “OK.”

3. No arguing, whining or pouting.

4. If you don’t understand or have a question, bring it up later.

How to Interrupt

1. Look at the person.

2. Stand where you can be seen.

3. When you have been recognized, say “Excuse me for interrupting.”

How to Apologize

1. Look at the person.

2. Say “I’m sorry for…”

3. Say “Will you accept my apology?”

How to Talk It Out

1. Stop and cool down.

2. Talk and listen.

3. Brainstorm alternatives.

4. Agree to try one of the plans.
