Coaching From the Inside Out
Every successful athletic team or program I have seen or been associated with all had one thing in common, they were built on a solid
foundation. I have always been an advocate of not only teaching solid fundamentals, repitition, and excecution until it becomes an automatic reaction without having to think, but ” Coaching From The Inside Out ” as well. To me coaching from the inside out is to become the total person God created us to be, by serving each other in maximizing our full potential, mentally (knowledge) physically (ability), and spiritually (character, purpose, direction).
We must meet people where they are. Accept and love them as they are, look at them not as to what they are, but who they can become through coaching from the inside out. It doesn’t matter what field we are in, all of us are coaches whether we are will to admit it or not. We have a saying in Coach’s Corner that Love is spelled on way Time. There are a lot of hungry people that go to bed hungry each night, but the number going to bed feeling unloved is far greater.
The three most infulentual things in our lives are the people we meet, the books we read, and the music we listen to. What an honor it is to be called Teacher or Coach and what an awsome responsibility goes with it, but what a great opprotunity we have to infulence lives. As leaders we must be willing to do three things.
Set The Standard in love, honesty, integrity, character and commitment. Accept The Fears Of Others. Stand Alone. Four characteristics of a leader are Listen, Learn, Help, Lead with a servant heart.
This is what coaching from the inside out is all about. Not only are we preparing our student/athletes for the game at hand, but for the biggest gameof all, the game of life by instilling in them that burning desire to strive for excellence in all they do.
