Responsible Monkey
I use 2 monkeys in my classroom as a target behavior or used to symbolize the differences of appropriate and inappropriate behaviors. Responsible Monkey is a monkey who represents appropriate behavior. He sits at his own desk, is ready to learn, and loves to enjoy the company of the children who are following directions.
However, Responsible Monkey does get frightened when a child exhibits inappropriate or “ugly” behavior. Many times Responsible Monkey will hide in order not to witness such a loss of self-control. At this time, Misbehaving Monkey comes out of his zipped black bag with his wild like white hair and big teeth. This “ugly” monkey likes to see children misbehaving. When the child has calmed down and is beginning to gain self-control (the children are not demonstrating “ugly” behavior), Misbehaving Monkey works his way back into the bag and Responsible Monkey will sit in his seat ready to attend to the next task.
