12 Steps for Beginning a Values in Action! Program in Your School!
1. Preview the Values in Action! guide and the numerous school
activities. Keep in mind that these strategies and solutions were
developed over a 20 year period, to be used for a 7 year
ethics/character program. Focus on 1 value per year
2. Begin your program with a strong foundation of Responsibility, since
responsibility is the foundational value upon which all other values are
based. In the Values in Action! program, Initiative rather than
responsibility is used. Initiative is the highest form of
responsibility. Use all the “adult words” in this program, because
children of all ages can learn them. Values in Action! Guide Page 327
3. Consider using the child with the body reference points on a school
bulletin board in a room where student assemblies are held. Refer to
the body parts and behavior as you proceed to explain the 7 values,
using the picture of the child.
