Values in Action! Classroom Report
Teachers at Anderson will have a Rainbow of Respect up this year in their rooms and all will participate in the Weekly respect ideas. Along with that each teacher will must spend some time daily on social skills. We have started with How to Follow Instructions, How to Walk in the Hall, How to Behave in the Cafeteria, and How to Get the Teacher’s Attention. Soon we will add How to Listen to Instruction. Those are skills we feel are vital. Later we will use How to Apologize and Interrupt, some that will fit right in with respect. I believe the teacher is the critical element in the program. We must all realize that Values in Action! is a way of being/thinking and not a program or a set of lessons plans. We must get the teachers to model respect and point out that they
are modeling it before we can get any student to change his way of interacting with others.
Editors Note:
New for 2000! We will offer Action /Reaction Journals for each of the core ethical virtues in the Values in Action! program . Teachers can select students to write entries who model behaviors to be included in the journals for each of the 7 core ethical virtues
