Teaching Children to Focus Through the Circle!
Here’s an activity that kids get good at with practice. The first command
is: “Everybody hold hands and see how long it takes us to form a complete
circle.” As the teacher states “Circle Up!” all the children hold hands to
form a circle. You might want to time the children so they can keep a
running record of how long it takes. Once the children form their circle
you can play a game called Focus! The object of the game is to teach
children to make eye contact. Rules include all heads down as we continue
to hold hands in a circle. On a signal from the teacher everyone looks up.
If you make eye contact with another person’s eyes you point to them and
you both sit down. Keep doing this until everyone makes eye contact. If
you do not have equal pairs, the teacher can be the last one to focus with
the last standing student.
