Weekly Respect Ideas
SUGGESTED FORMAT TO FOLLOW FOR CLASSROOM INFUSION
Week 1 As a class develop a banner or display that encompasses our theme of respect. Display the banners on our doors or outside walls. Introduce respect as our school wide goal for this year. We will be focusing on respect for: self, others, democratic ideals, environment. Send home a respect poster from the Values in Action Notebook. Respect in order to receive it you must show it!
Week 2 Respect of self: I am capable and can do a good job when I invest my energy in my work. Invite students to start a Value of Values journal. Enter weekly entries on the payoff’s of respecting yourself. Post poster “It’s O. K. to make mistakes that’s the way we learn”.
Week 3 Respect for self: My work is good, even though I occasionally make mistakes. Help students see the relationship between the higher one sets their goals the potential number of mistakes often increases.
Week 4 Respect for self: Help students realize their mental rehearsals and dominant thoughts is an issue of respect. Thoughts are the soil from which all behavior grows! You either chose statements like I can’t take it anymore or I can take this and a whole lot more.
Week 5 Focus: Respect for others: You receive respect by giving it to others. Consideration and high regard for the other person perpetuates respect. 11 powerful words describes the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Week 6 Respect of others: I can show respect by talking about others good qualities. What you are looking for you will find. Help students see the positive qualities in others and that it takes different types to build a strong team.
Week 7 Respect of others: I can show respect by having manners and being thankful. Read Monday memo on Manners that Matter.
Week 8 Respect of others: I can show respect by learning to be patient waiting for my turn. The only way we can learn patience is to be presented with obstacles that challenge our patience.
Week 9 Respect of others: I can show respect by not putting others ideas down. Everyone experiences and fears are different. By being a Respectful Listener and learning others perspectives, growth will occur. Hurting people hurt people! Look beyond their behavior to their fears and hurt in their life.
Week 10 Respect of others: I can show respect by keeping my word and commitment. Refer to the Integrity Creed in the values in Action! Curriculum.
Week 11 Respect of others: I can show respect by not blaming others when I get in trouble. I can accept my faults and work to correct them.I can face my problems and not go around them.
Week 11 Respect of others: I can show respect by learning from others and their ethnic groups. Even though we all look different, we all have hearts and feelings.
Week 12 Respect of Democratic Process: I can show respect by being an active and responsible citizen.
Week 13 Respect of Country: I can show respect by being kind to my neighbors.
Week 14 Respect of Country: I can show respect by obeying the law and respecting police and other officers.
Week 15 Respect for Country: I can show respect by being totally focused when I salute the flag.
Week 16 Respect for Country : I can show respect by solving problems with words, not violence. Work it out with kind words! Involve students in activity on Violence and its effect on others.
Week 17 Respect for Environment: I can show respect by recycling items that can be recycled.
Week 18 Respect for Environment: I can show respect by pitching in to clean up the environment. Join a campaign or initiate one!
Week 19 Respect for Environment: I can show respect by reminding others to keep our school and other areas clean.
Week 20 Respect for Environment: I can show respect by allowing plants and trees to grow undisturbed.
Week 20 Respect for Environment: I can show respect by conserving water and energy.
Week 21 Respect of all areas…self. others, country and environment Respect occurs when I initiate it towards myself, others, my country and the environment. It will not happen if I wait and expect respect.
